Matt Carter joined Burson-Marsteller, in January 2010, from communications and research firm Penn Schoen and Berland Associates where he had been Managing Director since 2006. Together with Joel Levy, Matt co-founded the EMEA office of Penn Schoen and Berland Associates at the beginning of 2006 as the first non-US office of the firm, turning it into one of the fastest growing WPP companies world-wide in recent years and working with a wide range of leading companies across Europe.

Prior to working for PSB, Matt was General Secretary of the British Labour Party, where he ran the successful 2005 General Election campaign, leading the team that helped to re-elect former Prime Minister Tony Blair for a third term. He graduated with a DPhil from the University of York (1999), a MA in Politics from the University of York (1994) and a BA (Hons) in Social and Political Studies from the University of Sheffield (1993). He has written two books and published numerous articles on politics as well as speaking at conferences on campaigns across the world.

He is married with three children and outside of work enjoys playing football, running, supporting Grimsby Town FC, and is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Tamasha Theatre Company, one of the leading British Asian theatre companies.
